Doris Jernigan Cox

Doris Jernigan Cox, 94, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully February 15, 2026. She was born on October 16,1931 in Dunn, NC to the late Oscar and Viola Jernigan and was preceded in death by her late husband, Earl M. Cox, Jr.

Mrs. Cox was a longtime member at Christ Presbyterian Church. She worked for GNC (General Nutrition Center) for 25 years and enjoyed learning about vitamins and nutrition. She also enjoyed working in her yard making sure it was always pristine.

Mrs. Cox was a wonderful wife, mother and Nana and leaves behind many cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Kevin M. Cox and wife Anne of Charlotte; daughter, Kelly C. Tano and husband Mike of Waxhaw and two precious granddaughters, Macie and McKenzie Tano. She is also survived by two sisters, Sudie Elmore of Dunn and Shirley Williams of Fayetteville, along with many nieces and nephews.

A private family burial will take place on June 11, 2026 at Sharon Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at a later date.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Sardis Oaks during her rehabilitation. We would also like to give a special thanks to the entire team and staff at Summit Place at Southpark Assisted Living for their compassionate support for all of us during Doris’ brief stay. Her caregivers provided loving care with dignity, where she shared many laughs with them!
