Doris Mae Stephenson

Doris M. Stephenson, died July 8, 2016 at home. She was born on December 11, 1924 in Charlotte, NC to the late Walter C. Stephenson and Laura Jean McCoy Stephenson. She lived in Charlotte her entire life, worked a long time at Union Carbide, and was a member of Hoskins Ave. Baptist Church for many years. Doris was a graduate of Thomasboro High School in Charlotte. She was an avid Carolina Panthers fan and she watched every game; the team sent her memorabilia for her 90th birthday.

She was the oldest of six sisters and after her parent’s death, served as the matriarch of the family. Doris is survived by her sister Martha Stephenson Harbin; nieces Rhonda Coley, Sandra Ballard, and Laura Rhudy; nephews Gerald Gaddy, Rob McCrorie, David Bolt, Jeff Bolt, and Tony Starnes; 17 grand nieces and nephews; and 20 great-grand nieces and nephews. Doris is pre-deceased by her parents Walter and Jean Stephenson, her sisters Inez Stephenson, Mary Bolt, Francis Smith, Joyce Rothwell, and Barbara Starnes; and her nephews Steve Bolt, Gary Bolt, and Tim Gaddy; and great grandniece Hannah Martin.

Funeral services will be at McEwen Funeral Home at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 10, 2016 with Chaplain Michael Flynn officiating. A reception will immediately follow the funeral. Interment will follow at the Historic Elmwood Cemetery, 700 W. Sixth St, in Charlotte, NC.
