

Dorothy Janet Perkins Herndon, 85, passed away late Saturday evening, February 28, 2015 at the Asbury Care Center in Charlotte, NC. Born September 7, 1929 in Elizabethtown, NC, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Attice Rackley Perkins. A resident of Charlotte since 1947, Dorothy was an active member of Central United Methodist Church where she had participated in the Women’s Circles and at one time served as the secretary of her Sunday school class. She had been employed as a certified nurses’ aid at the former Wesley Nursing Center.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford Herndon Jr., whom she married June 19, 1949; four sons, Charles A. Herndon and wife, Gwendolynn of Weaverville, NC, Richard D. Herndon of Charlotte, Andrew W. Herndon and wife, Neecie of Mint Hill and Gary Mitchell Herndon of Charlotte; two siblings, Camilla Jackson and husband, Pat of Bahama, NC and John Paul Perkins and wife, Claudine of Wilson, NC; three grandchildren, Lindsey, Amelia and Michelle.
A granddaughter, Karen, preceded her in death along with her siblings, William Perkins, Katherine Perkins, Tommy Perkins and Clifford Brown “Pete” Perkins Jr.
Funeral services are planned for 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 4th, at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Michelle Chappelle officiating. Friends may visit from 1 to 2 pm at the church, 6030 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212. Burial will take place in Sunset Memory Gardens.
