Dorothy W. Morgan
December 8, 1926 – December 30, 2020
Dorothy Wells Morgan, “Dot,” was born on December 8, 1926 to Charles Bryan Wells and Eunice Garrett Wells in the lovely town of Canton, NC, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. She graduated with an Associate Degree in Literary Arts from Mars Hill and completed her BS in Home Economics from UNC Women’s College at Greensboro. After a seven-month courtship she married the love of her life, Thomas William Morgan, “Bill;” they delighted in 63 years of marriage. She was the personification of a mother lioness to her sons, David and Dan; she took the bull by the horns whenever it came to advocating for her sons. She loved to cook, experienced a rewarding career as a civil servant at Social Security and was active in the Baptist Church. Dot loved to travel; she and Bill experienced Europe, Canada and Hawaii. Her avocations were varied; she served as an auxiliary member of Gideon’s International, painted beautiful landscapes and raised Corgis and Dachshunds. Her love for German Shepherds, Shetland Sheep Dogs and all dogs was renowned. In the words of her son, Dan, “She was reliable, supportive and never asked for a thing.” She was a lady. Even in her last days she insisted on wearing a dress and wearing lipstick. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Morgan and her devoted son, Dan Morgan. Dot was preceded in death by her parents and her son, David Wells Morgan. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Dorothy Morgan’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the David Wells Morgan Scholarship for Classical and Modern Languages at Furman University, Greenville, SC 29613 (864-294-2000). Graveside Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. Online condolences may be submitted at wwwforestlawnwest.com.
