Dorothy Claire Nabors, age 70, died on October 12, 2026. Born on June 25, 1956, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Dorothy later moved to North Carolina when her father relocated for work, and she made her home in Matthews, North Carolina.
Dorothy was educated in Catholic schools and graduated from Charlotte Catholic, a foundation that remained evident throughout her life in the steady strength of her faith and the quiet wisdom with which she met each day. She carried herself with a thoughtful grace, and those who knew her best will remember a woman who was deeply cherished—one whose presence brought comfort, steadiness, and care to the lives around her.
A hard-working professional with a gift for organization and follow-through, Dorothy dedicated many years to her work in Charlotte. She spent 20 years with JA Construction Company, handling data processing and all functions within that department. She later served as office manager in the housewares industry for Thomas and Cradock, and continued in that role until retiring from Reynolds Aluminum as office manager. Throughout her career, she was known for her reliability and the generous spirit with which she supported others—always helpful, always willing, and giving more than was asked.
In 1999, Dorothy married the love of her life, John Nabors. Together they enjoyed playing golf, entertaining friends and family, and celebrating holidays surrounded by those they loved. Dorothy’s joy was found in the simple, meaningful rhythms of life: time with family and friends, gardening, cross stitching, and the warmth of conversation and connection. Her compassion was not loud or showy, but constant—expressed through attentiveness, kindness, and the many ways she made others feel seen and cared for.
Dorothy was a member of St. John Newman's Catholic Church, where her faithful heart found community and strength. Her legacy is one of generosity and steady goodness—an enduring example of a life lived with purpose, humility, and love.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister Judy, and her parents, Oscar and Florence Langevin. She is survived by her husband, John; stepchildren John Jr. and Gwen (Andy) Politis; grandchildren Sophia, Eva, and John III; one brother, Mark; and sisters Diane, Michelle, Joan, and Celeste. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
The family would like to extend appreciation to those who helped care for Dorothy during this extended illness.
The family will have a private service for Dorothy at a later date.
