

CHARLOTTE - Dorothy Levine Segal, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2015, at her home in Boca Raton. FL. She was born on February 12, 1923 in Rockingham, NC. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Minnie Levine.
Dorothy was a devoted wife and homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She grew up in Rockingham, NC. In 1942, she married Albert G. Segal and moved to Philadelphia, PA. She continued to live there with her mother-in-law while awaiting the return of her husband who was serving in World War II. After her husband's return, they moved to Charlotte, NC to start Temple Shoes, a wholesale shoe business. In 1958, her husband created Pic N Pay, the first self-service shoe store in the southeast with Dorothy's brother, Alvin Levine. After her husband retired, they moved to Boca Raton, FL, where she remained a full-time resident. She also spent her summers in Ocean City, MD, where they owned a home since the 1950's.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Albert G. Segal and her brother, Sherman Levine.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry Segal of Morganton, NC, Melvin Segal of Charlotte, NC, Howard Segal of Westlake Village, CA, Stuart Segal (Pam) of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Roslyn Segal of Easthampton, MA; brothers, Alvin E. Levine (Helene) and Leon Levine (Sandra) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Leslie, Paige, Scott, Tyler, Blake, Michael, David and Stephanie Segal and Colee Asia; and great-grandchildren, Iris and Levi Morin, Aura Asia-Ochoa and Alexis Segal.
A funeral service to both mourn her loss and celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Temple Israel with Rabbi Murray Ezring officiating. Interment will follow at Hebrew Cemetery.
