Dorothy Mae Stafford

Dorothy Mae Stafford, 90, died Monday, April 08, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Charlotte, she was born on October 16, 1922 to the late James Calvin Gillis and Bessie Mae Chapman. Mrs. Stafford was a member of Newell Baptist Church since 1945 where she taught Sunday School, worked in the nursery and was a member of the Lady’s Circle.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, April 10th at the Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service with Rev. Scott Keith officiating. Interment will follow in Newell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Stafford is survived by a son, James R. Stafford and wife Patricia, of Cartersville, GA; four daughters, Martha Jean Crump and husband George, of Monroe, NC, Judy Ann Harper and husband William, of Harrisburg, NC, Linda S. Dobbs, of Denver, NC, Patti S. Phillips and husband Frank, of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Charles Reid and wife Beverly, of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Millie Allison, of Newport Richey, FL; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stafford was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Stafford, in 2002.
