Dorothy Price Wakefield

Born September 25, 1924 in Bristol, Tenn., “Dottie” was the daughter of Grace Bunting Price and F. Bowman Price. In 1942 she married Lt. John T. Wakefield of Worcester, Mass. and they resided on Captiva Island, Florida.

Prior to her marriage and because of her father’s health problems, her family moved to Captiva Island and opened Tween Waters Inn in their home. For years they divided their time between Captiva and their home at Tween Hills Farm in Bristol. Following the death of her parents, Mrs. Wakefield and her husband operated the inn until it was sold in 1975. Well known hallmarks at the Tween Waters Inn were her gourmet cooking skills and warm hospitality, both of which continued for her friends and family until her death.

She is survived by her daughter, Grace W. (Niki) Herr of Charlotte, NC and her three beloved grandsons, William Wakefield Herr and his wife Claire, Matthew Price Herr and Christopher Bowman Herr, all of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; John Wakefield; and special friend, Dewitt Jones.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13th at Harry & Bryant’s Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Road. Mrs. Wakefield’s family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
