My very best friend in the entire world. I love you mama.

I wish I had met this woman, loved so intently and held in such high regard. I am so sorry for your family's loss. My heart and thoughts are with you all.

Aunt Dovie was a heavenly woman among sinners.
Though I am sure she had her Faults and flaws, like we all do, I never saw them.

One of the best things about going over to her house was to hear her say"Hey!!, how you doin" which she said with a country twang and a sincerity of a sweet voice.

Like others have said you could not go over to her house without being offered food and if you said No, you would have to say it a few more times before you left. Aunt Dovie was the epitome of southern debutantness. I remember one time after Thanksgiving in which she  made some stuffing (at least I think she made it). The stuffing that year was not that popular, probaly becuase there was to many other good pickins to choose from. A few days later Carol called me over to help with something. Of course I got the "Hey, how you doing," and I told her I loved the stuffing. Carol hollared at me to come down stairs and I did. By the time I got back up there was a whole big bowl of stuffing on the table heated with a fork in it. When I say Big bowl, I'm pretty sure it was all of the left over stuffing. And I sat there and ate the whole thing and I don't think I ate anything else for the next few days.

She always amused me at Thanksgiving she would never sit down, even with bad knees, until she was sure everyone was taken care of. That's who she was always taking care of others.
So may the heavenly trumpets blare a welcoming tune.
Cause a earthly saint has come one.
As Dovie would say getting off the phone "OK! Bye Bye"

My sincere condolences.  She was a fine lady that made everyone feel welcome when you met her.  My wife at the time was one of her nieces and we were friends with 3 of her kids. I used to talk to her about her gardens which were great. She will be missed but we know wher she will be!

When Carol wanted me to meet her momma never did I realize that you could fall so easily in love with such a special person. Momma was a person of beauty, grace and mercy. She was just the sweetest little southern lady I have ever met. When she would call Carol at work she would ask to talk to me and I LOVED it.  She made me the prettiest white afghan and even brought homemade chicken & dumplings and flowers from her garden to me.  She just couldn't help but care for others, in turn you just couldn't help but love her back. It was an honor to know her and to be accepted as her friend. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose heart she touched. Smiles are many in heaven!!

Ms. Dovie was a bright shining light of love whenever I visited her daughter and my long time friend Carol. She wanted to make sure you were fed, comfortable and nutured through her love of flowers, nature and animals! And oh how she wanted to holler "Carol" from all the way down to the apartment pool! It was time to come home and eat and oh how she could cook! I will also forever remember her art with crafts, gardening , and so many beautiful flowers. She shared her love of beautiful things with many people and gave away her homemade/handmade crafts as a token of love.. My prayer on this day and days ahead is for God to give the family and friends comfort and peace and may the sweet memories  be with you always. S'Ann

Aunt Dovie....
Such a special lady! Always had a sweet smile! I never heard her say a bad word about anyone! She was so giving....always sharing her flowers, plants, sewing projects and her great food. Wonderful cook....her dressing was the Best! I learned so much from her and she will live in my heart forever!

She was an excellent cook, her coconut cake was beyond compare!  She could sew or crochet anything.  Her gardens were beautiful, flowers or vegetable.  Most of all she was a wonderful person.   I was fortunate to be related to this wonderful woman, she was my Aunt Dovie, whom I loved dearly.  She will be missed by many.

My earliest memory of Miss Dovie's hospitality was being invited to Sunday lunch when I first dated Wesley.  Oh, my goodness... the amount of food!  Chicken and dumplings, fried okra, five other vegetables, deviled eggs, congealed salads, homemade rolls, 2 pies, a cake, and sweet tea!!  This was her "norm".  You should have seen a holiday feast!  She had the sweetest smile and possessed so many home-making talents.  My deepest sympathy to Ann, Carol, and Thomas!!   With much love, Myra Huntley

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Dovie. How beautiful and comforting are the words of Jeremiah 29:11..." The thoughts that I am thinking toward you are for a future and a hope." No matter what we are always in God's memory. My deepest sympathies.
