On Tuesday morning, October 31, 2017, Dowd Lee Melton, 85 of Charlotte, completed his earthly journey and began his eternal life through the Gates of Heaven. Dowd was born on July 26, 1932 in Union County to Alexander Melton and Carrie Helms.
Dowd was a long time member (over 60 years) of Ridgeview Baptist Church. He was a bakery supervisor for A&P and Earthgrain; retired from both.
Dowd is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Sara Griffin Melton; daughters, Sandra Rycroft (Bill), and Debra Gaddy (Ray); grandchildren, Chris Melton (Heather), Andy Rycroft (Vicki), Terri Benfield (Aaron), Ashley Phillips (Brad) and Devan Gaddy; 10 most beloved great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Cagle; and brothers, Paul, Silias, Donald and Gene Deese.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 4 at 1:00pm at Ridgeview Baptist Church; Reverend Charles Foushee to officiate. A visitation will be held Friday, November 3 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home from 7-9:00pm.
