

A lifelong Charlottean, Mr. Cox was born July 13, 1930, the son of the late Earl M. Cox, Sr. and Macie Loraine Linker Cox. He was a graduate of Thomasboro High School and furthered his education at NC State. He then entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Cox maintained his association with his military comrades as a member of the American Legion Post 380.
Mr. Cox is remembered as “a people person”, a trait that made him a consummate salesman. He enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, serving the needs of people and never finding time to retire.
He is also remembered for his many years of dedicated service as a member of Christ Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities including Elder, Deacon and President of the Men’s Fellowship, as well as also being known as a gifted lay speaker.
Mr. Cox loved his family and friends and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Jernigan Cox; his son, Kevin Cox and wife, Anne; and his daughter, Kelly Tano and her husband, Mike; all of Charlotte. He was the beloved Pawpaw of Macie and McKenzie Tano.
He is also survived by two sisters, Gail Hodge of Murrell’s Inlet, SC and Becky Smith of Charlotte; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Mr. Cox’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Christ Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Stephen Ratliff presiding. His family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private committal service with military honors will be held in Sharon Memorial Park.
