He was born on the 22nd of April, 1948 in Union County, North Carolina to the late Edison Odell Helms and Frances Jeanette Brown Helms. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Cathey Helms, whom he adored, his sister, Frances Johnson, brother, Michael Oell Helms.
Eddie is survived by his two children: Eddie Dwayne Helms and Drishana Nicole Helms; three grandsons: Joseph, Christian and Joshua Helms; two sisters: Barbara Richardson and Janet Beachtoldt; a sister-in-law, Barbara Stone and her husband, David and a brother-in-law, Johnnie Werth and his wife, Donna and many nieces and nephews.
He loved to deer hunt, going fishing and loved to drive through the mountains with his wife, Cathy, where they spent most of their time together. Eddie was loved by everyone around him, and he knew no strangers. He was a great friend to everyone.
