Edith Starnes Kemmerling, 100, passed away peacefully at her home in Charlotte, NC on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 22, 1926, Edith lived a long and wonderful life marked by hard work, devotion to family and astounding independence.
Edith graduated from Jackson High School in Waxhaw, NC in 1944 and worked in the automotive business for many years. She was known for her dedication, resilience, and caring spirit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernard Kemmerling; her parents, Thomas Pikney Starnes and Mary Emma Hayes Starnes; her sisters, Ruth (Knox) McCain, Mae (Frank) McCain, and Irene Starnes; and an infant brother.
Edith is survived by her niece, Lynn McCain Twitty; her nephew, Dennis McCain; her step daughter-in-law, Bobbie Kemmerling, many step-grandchildren; and numerous extended nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory and the love she shared throughout her life.
Edith’s family finds comfort in the many memories they shared with her and in the legacy of love and kindness she leaves behind.
A service to celebrate Edith’s life will be held at McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel located at 10500 Park Road in Charlotte on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 2 pm.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Novant Health Hospice team and those who offered love, prayers, and support during this time.
