Born November 14, 1945 in Charlotte, he was a son of the late Edward Thompson Senior and Arlene Pelletier. He was part of a big family consisting of 19 siblings. Junior worked for the City of Charlotte for almost 40 years prior to retiring in 2008. He worked under the street department division as a heavy equipment operator. While employed by the city he made many lasting friendships.
Junior was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and served on many committees throughout the years. Junior always looked forward to the monthly Senior Citizen Club gatherings. One of his favorite activities outside of general fellowship was going out to eat at various restaurants around the city.
Junior was a big sport fanatic. Always cheering his favorite teams the New York Yankees and the Oakland Raiders. His biggest passion came within the sport of NASCAR. He worked for many years at the race track as Security at the infield care center. He always looked forward to those two times a year that seemed like vacation to him.
Junior never met a stranger in his life. He would always start a conversation with anybody. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was married to his current wife Aileen for 27 years. He always looked forward to sharing his love of NASCAR with his son and granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings.
He is survived by his wife Aileen, one son, one granddaughter, six siblings and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Atrium Health Mercy and Sunrise Providence for the great care that Junior received during his stay.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday May 21, 2024 at 11:00 am, followed by a service to celebrate Junior’s life in the Chapel at 12:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. Graveside Service to follow at Evergreen Cemetery of Charlotte, 4426 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205.
