Born October 12, 1952 in Harbel, Liberia (West Africa), he was a son of the late Edward Lester Varnie Sr. and Willette Peal. He worked as a computer technician at Firestone Natural Rubber Company before coming to America in 1979, spending time in Oklahoma City (Oklahoma), where he earned his associates in Informational Technology at Oscar Rose Junior College. He later moved to Orange County (California), and settled in Charlotte (North Carolina).
Ed’s passions included a deep love and knowledge for music, as he was known to host memorable gatherings that kept people on the dance floor. Though he donned a mellow laid-back demeanor, his warm smile and compelling storytelling made him the ultimate showman. He also enjoyed computer technology, films and capturing moments with photography.
Ed was a loving and devoted spouse, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was the type to make everyone feel at home as his house had an open door policy. He would never hesitate to help a person in need as the word “no” was rarely in his vocabulary. He also had a sweet spot for children. His one-of-a-kid spirit was felt by all who knew him.
Ed is survived by his wife, Beatrice Nimely Varnie; two daughters, Willette Varnie and Diane Varnie; two sons, Edward Bobby Varnie and Edward Lester Varnie Jr.; a grandson, Derrick “DJ” Neal Jr.; two sisters, Catherine Raynes and Blanche Fallah; and a brother, Victor Varnie.
