Elaine Smith Barnett

Elaine Smith Barnett, 75, of Charlotte died Friday, May 20, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital, Main.

A native of Macon, GA, Mrs. Barnett was born to the late Rufus Eugene Smith and Mary Jones Smith on August 13, 1935. She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where she taught children's Sunday school. Mrs. Barnett was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at the University of Georgia and retired from Media Power Advertising Agency. She was a mother and homemaker who loved children and animals. Mrs. Barnett is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Billings Barnett.

Mrs. Barnett is survived by her children, Thomas Billings Barnett, Jr. and wife Tracy of Charlotte, Jeannie Barnett Parker and husband Alan of Mint Hill, Lynn Barnett Strum and husband Jeff of Mint Hill; grandchildren, Bailey and Kinsey Barnett, Alan and Adam Parker and Emily Strum.

The funeral service will be held 12:00p.m., Thursday, May 26 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Arnie Corriher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Interment will follow on Friday, May 27 at 11:00a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, GA.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Children's Ministry, 6401 Hickory Grove Rd., Charlotte, NC 28215.
