Mrs. Elizabeth G. Griffin Connell

Elizabeth (Lib) Griffin Connell, of Charlotte went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital. A service to celebrate her life will be at 2:00PM Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, 10301 Harwood Lane with the Reverends Brian Taule, Tony Harper, and Dr. John Sloan officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00PM Friday evening at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive.

Mrs. Connell was born in Charlotte May 15, 1926 daughter of the late Henry Hutchinson and Sarah Elizabeth Bass Griffin. She was a former member of Greenland Avenue Baptist Church where she had been very active as a Sunday School Teacher of children and presently a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she had been active with children’s choir. She served as church clerk and as a choir member for many years and served on various committees and in her earlier years was a Violinist for the Charlotte Symphony. Until her first child, Mrs. Connell was associated with the Federal Reserve and during elections worked for the Election Board serving as the Chief Judge.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Edward “Ed” D. Connell, Sr.

Sisters-in-law: Nancy Lee Connell of Oakboro and Claudia Griffin of Charlotte and several nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Callie Rape and Myrtle Griffin, brothers, Hyder, Willis C. and Floyd Griffin and a sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” B. Griffin. In addition to flowers,
