March 31, 2017 began as a rain-filled dreary morning with lots of tears from the Lord because He knew He was about to take one of His children home. After taking a deep breath, something she was not able to do in quite some time, Elizabeth Ann Dexter, born September 15th 1943 relaxed in the peaceful arms of Jesus. At 10:20 am, on what appeared to be the beginning of a gloomy day, the sun shined bright in just a matter of moments as Elizabeth, affectionately known as Betty, took her last breath.
Betty was a beautiful, caring woman whose main priority was taking care of her husband of nearly 55 years, Burton Rex Dexter, and her five daughters: Vickie Dexter, Kelly Dexter, Jaqueline Meeks and Pamela Dexter of Charlotte, North Carolina and Robin Hensley of Sylva, North Carolina. Betty was also survived by seven grandchildren: Joseph, Tyler, Travis, Ashley, Kala, Keeland and Korianna as well as 2 great-grandchildren: Sean Tyler and Kelleigh.
Betty was born to William L. and Rose Dawson in Boston, Massachusetts. Later on, she was blessed with two brothers, William A. Dawson and Robert Dawson. After completing her education at the age of 18, a handsome young man on shore leave from the United States Navy was introduced to Betty. Not long after, on April 29, 1962, Burt and Betty Dexter were on their way to Michigan to begin their new life as husband and wife.
Over the course of the next thirteen years, five girls came on to the scene. A short time later, this couple decided to escape the harsh winters of Michigan and relocated to Orlando, Florida where they spent about twenty years raising their family. Then in 1996, the couple, now empty nesters, moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where Betty spent the rest of her days.
