

Mrs. Harvey, 84, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on August 13, 2012 at Golden Living Center. She was born on August 29, 1927 in Birmingham, AL, a daughter of the late Walter Richard Bruce, Sr. and Elizabeth Hardman Bruce. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Sidney Stanley Harvey, in 1999.
She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1950. Mrs. Harvey worked as a dietician at Rowan Memorial Hospital from 1968-70; as a surgical technician at Carolinas Medical Center from 1972-78; as hostess of the Reflections Restaurant at the Radisson Hotel in Charlotte from 1978-90, and later in the accounting department.
Betty was an avid doll collector. She handmade and gave away many dolls. Betty also created doll clothing, and also made clothing for her children and grandchildren. She also crafted, decorated, and gave away many miniature dollhouses.
Betty is survived by her son, Sid Harvey (Belinda), of Salisbury, NC; three daughters, Debbie Oakes (Barry) of Key West, FL, Pat Mangum (Chris) of Raleigh, NC, and Becky Carey (Brooks) of Lithia, FL; brother, Walter Bruce, Jr. (Carla) of Goldsboro, NC; and best friend of 52 years, Frankie Alexander of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the Chapel of Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
