

A native of Rowan County, Mrs. Outen was born to the late John Reece Coffey and Eva May Gregory Coffey on May 3, 1920. She was a former member of Chalmers Memorial ARP Church, a charter member of McKee Road ARP Church in Matthews and served on the Synodical Board. Mrs. Outen was a member of the Matthews Woman’s Club for over 50 years and the Crazy Bridge Gang for over 25 years. She was a lover of the outdoors enjoying; gardening, swimming, camping, hiking and traveling with her husband. Mrs. Outen was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles William Outen on January 2, 2004, by brothers, David, Roy and Howard Coffey and sister, Mable Coffey Ritch.
Mrs. Outen is survived by her sister, Betty Burnette of Tampa, FL and by special niece, Margaret Ritch of Matthews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 28 in the chapel at Wilson Funeral and Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte. Interment will be by her beloved husband’s side in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
