Ellen Therese Barcellona

Ellen Therese Barcellona, 64, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was the oldest of four children, born on July 14, 1951, in The Bronx, New York. She grew up in Somerville, New Jersey, and graduated from Immaculata High School. She worked for American Hoechst as an accountant, where she met her husband Tom. They married on July 21, 1990, and made their home in Charlotte, NC.

Ellen was a caring mother, a loving and loyal wife, a devoted sister, and a lifelong friend. She had a stubborn Irish spirit, loved watching baseball, a consistent school volunteer, and wouldn’t miss a Yankees game, regardless of the time of day. She enjoyed going to the Jersey Shore, Beech Mountain, Maine, and many other adventures accompanied by family. Her laugh was contagious, and her silly personality could brighten any room. She spent much time volunteering at her son’s schools, decorating her house for the holidays, especially Christmas, and working as a devoted room mom. She loved animals, particularly dogs, cats, and her adored hummingbirds, taking care of her family at home, and was always up for a long conversation and a cup of tea. During the last months of her life, she battled cancer but continued to stay strong, fighting until the final days.

She joins her husband Tom Barcellona, her mother Kay Waters and her aunt Tecie Lardner. She is survived by her father, Tom Waters; siblings, Cathy Waters, Brian Waters, and Thomas Waters; sons, Sean Barcellona (Lindy Maddox), Michael Barcellona, and Tom Barcellona (Sarah); and grandsons, Thomas Barcellona and Matthew Barcellona.

Her family will greet friends on Friday, July 24th, from 6-8 p.m. at the McEwen-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road in Charlotte. Her funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 25th, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish, Charlotte, with the Reverend Mark S. Lawlor as the celebrant. Interment will be at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews, NC.
