

She graduated from Wesley Chapel High School and Kings Business College. Her career included Belk’s Department Stores, Duke Power and over thirty years at The Charlotte Observer.
She married Miller McElhaney. They were the proud parents of two girls, Terry and Mary and the grandparents of three.
She was preceded in death by her husband Miller, daughter Terri McElhaney Hobbs and a Grandson, Josh McElhaney, three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary McElhaney of the home, granddaughter Scarlet Ratliff (Jason) and Joey Hobbs (Tasha) and three great grandchildren, Angel, Caleb and Will Hobbs. Her love for her family was unconditional and unmeasurable.
Ellen will be remembered as a selfless person who went out of her way to help others, a lover of animals who would take in any stray that strolled by. She also enjoyed gardening and baking.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, August 25th at Sharon Presbyterian Cemetery, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte NC, conducted by The Reverend Bruce Powell.
