Ellis Carl Chavis

Mr. Chavis, age 83, of Charlotte, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Carolina Care Center - Cherryville. Born August 29, 1928 in Richmond County, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Blanche Chavis. Mr. Chavis served in the U.S. Marines. He retired as a supervisor of Mt. Holly Spinning Mill.

The service to celebrate the life of Ellis Carl Chavis will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service - Derita Chapel with his grandson, James Jones, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ellen Jones Chavis; two children, James Jones of Clover and Claudette Taylor of Rock Hill; four siblings, Gladys Skipper, Ina Childres, Betty Ellis and Mickey Chavis; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 222 S. Church Street - Suite 336M, Charlotte, NC 28202.
