Born in Mecklenburg County to E.L. Nance, Sr. and Sarah Matthews Nance, he graduated from Berryhill High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. He joined the US Air Force where he was a liaison for the Long Island Early Fliers Club. He worked for Gates Rubber Company for over 30 years. After retiring, he found much joy and reward as a volunteer with Hospice.
He married Doris Smith Prather who predeceased him. Surviving are stepchildren, Edward Prather and Maryann Prather Allred.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 16th at 1:00 PM with services following at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. Pastor Landon Horton will officiate. Entombment will follow a short service at Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum.
