Ernest "Pat" Ellison II

Ernest Pat Ellison II, 81, passed away on September 25, 2023 at Southminster. He was born on March 8, 1942 in Charlotte, a son of the late Robert Emmet Ellison and Mary Neel Moody Ellison. He was in the graduating class of 1960 at Myers Park High School where he enjoyed competing in football.

Pat served in the Air National Guard before coming back to Charlotte to join his father in the insurance brokerage business, Ernest Ellison Inc. and then Ellison-Abbey Insurance. He enjoyed giving back to the community by driving for Friendship Trays, giving blood at the Red Cross and donating to local charities.

Pat was dedicated to his family and enjoyed coaching the children's team sports and being involved in their lives. We could count on him to always be there for us. He had a great sense of humor and would always take time to talk with everyone. Pat was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church of Charlotte.

Pat was a devoted and loving husband, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lane Ellison; a daughter, Neel Ellison Woollen, and her husband Kemp Woollen of Charlotte; a son, Ernest Ellison III, and his wife Kimberly Hughes Ellison of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Sloan Bellingrath Ellison, Sutton Caroline Ellison, and Emmet Archer Ellison of Charlotte; a sister, Larkin Fultz, and her husband Tom Fultz of Beaufort, SC; three nephews, David Carpenter of Charleston, SC; Patrick Carpenter, and his wife Dianala Carpenter of Houston, TX; and Matthew Fultz of Cape Coral, FL.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Christ Episcopal Church of Charlotte at 2:00 pm.
