

Mr. Shepard, 87, of Charlotte, NC died February 2, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital-Matthews. A native Charlottean, he was born on January 3, 1924, a son of the late Ernest Allen Shepard and Helen Haas Shepard, and beloved husband to his late wife of 66 years, Lois Ann Shepard.
He attended Harding High School where he played football. Mr. Shepard was a WWII veteran who served in the Navy aboard the USS Mackenzie as a radarman. He worked for Observer Printing for 58 years, until retiring.
Ernest enjoyed his family and friends with a zest for life and a quiet twinkle in his eyes. He loved gardening, making furniture and woodworking. He was a devoted father to his three children who all survive him, Ernest Allen Shepard, III, April Shepard Jackson and Tina Shepard Segal. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Drew Jackson, Zachary Shepard, LiAnn Shepard, Jenna Shepard and Elizabeth Segal.; three great-grandchldren and a half sister, Elizabeth of Charlotte.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Harry & Bryant Company, “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Rd. Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 2:15 until 2:45 prior to the service. Interment will be private.
