All my prayers go out to Ervin's entire family.  I learned of his death a few short moments ago and am so sad to hear it.  

I first met Ervin around Christmas 2007.  He came into the Apple Store in SouthPark and I helped him buy iPods for his grandchildren.  Over the next 3 years, whenever he came into the store, I'd stop what I was doing to help him and go and say hi.  I briefly had the opportunity to meet his wife and one of his children, too.  What a wonderful family!

I was sad to learn of Ervin's death. I have such fond memories of him dating back to the 80's when I was a struggling but happy book publisher. Ervin was one of our greatest supporters, and I will always remember his delightful enthusiasm over all of our books and authors. He was a unique and loveable man and I will never forget him.

Beautiful service for a beautiful man.  My sympathies to Ervin's entire family.  He was one of the more gracious men I have had the good fortune to know.

We are all going to miss Erv's gracious ways, innovative environmental leadership, and inspiring tales of adventure and exotic travel.  With new technology and constant love of learning Erv reinvented himself many times. He was an inspiration to us all.

I would like to extend my condolences to the entire Jackson family.  I have fond memories of Ervin from the meetings we attended while he was the Merchandise Manager of J.B. Ivey and I was in a similar position at Pizitz Department Store.  We were together many times at Frederick Atkins Buying Office meetings around the country as well as in the New York retail market.  In addition to being a fine gentlemen and merchant, I remember him always having a camera with him for all occasions.  He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jackson Family... I am so sad that you have lost such an incredible husband, father, grandfather and brother.  I have lost a great mentor and friend.  Ervin Jackson was an awesome renaissance man and inspired me to "go big" in the early 1980's! He could see a vision that was unknown to me.  With Beth's coaching, I became an entrepreneur and never looked back. I cherish these memories... and enfold you with heartfelt love as you celebrate Ervin's new heavenly adventure. A generous, gentle and especially kind man with an inquiring mind the likes of which we don't expect to know again. Ervin's sincere interest in everything and everyone was so unique and so remarkable. A true friend to all he knew, we will miss him and remember him with great affection. I have always cherished the relationship I have enjoyed with Ervin. He was a great Merchant. He supported me when I was a Merchandising Manager especially and all the route from a Buyer to a Store Manager, he was always a guiding influence to me. We had our fun times, in New York, driving or flying to and from the Ivey's stores or planning special promotions. He was my Friend and I am going to miss him. My sympathy to all his family.

Grief can be so hard during the holidays, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one this holiday season.

Mr. Jackson was a friend when I worked at Ivey's in the mid 70's.He was always warm,inviting,and reassuring.Often the calming force in otherwise tense situations.He hosted a raftig trip to Highlands for several Ivey's associate and our wives.We felt so special!
 I know his family has a wealth of memories that will comfort them in this sad time.

Ervin  Jackson was my friend, my mentor, and my inspiration. I will miss him terribly. Our condolences are offered to Beth, Ivey, Cathy, and all of the family. We plan to be at the memorial. Most knew of Ervin's accomplishments, his leadership in establishing Discovery Place, his many efforts to assist Charlotte charities, and his insatiable energy in literally hundreds of civic projects.
Fewer knew his key role in making the Chattooga River a National Wild & Scenic River, his excellent photography, and his addiction to books & authors,  his curiosity, and his fascination with technology and any new gadget or toy.
Ervin,I cry for the loss of you; I rejoice for your too short presence on this earth, and for the things you did to inspire others, including us.

"Mr. Jackson is a fine example of a true country gentelman" I had the honor to have worked with Ervin Jackson and other fine people like him and all the members of the Ivey's Department Store Team. I and my family were fortunate in moving south in 1978 and joining one of the best employers in the USA, in Ivey's Department Stores. A company where employees were like family members and the Ivey's management and owners cared about you and your family. Mr. Jackson was one of these "special people" that God places in our lives.

Like he did with so many, Ervin Jackson inspired me to think creatively. He did so by readily sharing his own wondrous ideas, and then applauding my own - perhaps with a bit of gentle coaching so the best ones took hold. I always marveled at Mr. Jackson's joy for life and his wizardry in keeping up with the newest technology. Once, I was canoeing a challenging river when around the bend comes paddling Ervin Jackson, seemingly out for a pleasant day. Days were always pleasant being around Mr. Jackson. His interest and skill in outdoor photography amazed me, particularly mountain scenes from his beloved Grandfather Mountain. Ervin Jackson is a man I'll always respect and whose memory I'll deeply cherish. My best to his loving family.

Ivey, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing parents is never easy but I believe he spent his last day in his own "heaven" with all of his loved ones.  What a special ending for you all.  I wish I had known him but if he was anything like you, he had to have been a very special man.  Love to all and God Bless you!

Mr. Jackson was the most humble, most gracious person I ever met.  He had a way of making everyone feel important.  

I worked on his homes since the 1970's.  He always asked about my family.  He wanted me to explain my newest tools.  We talked about history, travel, and nature.  He showed me his latest computers, cell phones, toys, and gadgets.

This brilliant man approached life like a child on Christmas morning.  Sincere condolonces to Mrs. Jackson and all family and friends.

I was so glad that Mr. Jackson and I continued to be friends long after Dillard's bought Ivey's.  I worked with Mr. Jackson when I was a Buyer for Ivey's of Charlotte.  He always came up with ideas that no one ever thought of for us to 'check out'.
