

Esther Holden, 86, died November 6th, 2011, at CMC Mercy following a brief illness. Born in Kelly (Bladen County), NC on September 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Robert Fennel Peterson and Gertrude Johnson Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, of 49 years, Norman C. Holden and her sisters Hazel Peterson Howard, Grace Peterson Gladney and Nellene Peterson Holden.
Mrs. Holden was a resident at Westminster Towers in Rock Hill, SC since 2008; however, prior to her moving to Rock Hill, she was a resident of Charlotte and the Steele Creek Community of Mecklenburg County for almost 50 years.
Mrs. Holden graduated from Kelly High School and Worth Business College and worked as a bookkeeper / accountant for Rea Construction and Asphalt Materials in Charlotte until her retirement in 1988. She was a charter member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Charlotte and was also a charter member and a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Steele Creek Chapter 339. Esther enjoyed a full life taking great pleasure in her church, her family and friends and enjoyed several hobbies including; her flower garden, flower arranging, cooking for her family as well as being an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by a son, Dwaine Holden and his wife, Angela, of Charlotte, NC and two sisters, Eleanor Peterson Basile of Brooksville, Fla. and Nancy Peterson Kehoe of Spring Lake, NC. Brothers-in-law; Lindbergh Holden of Whiteville, NC and Robert Holden (Marie) of Supply, NC. Sisters-in-law; Dorothy Holden Brown of Wilmington, NC, Beatrice Holden Varnum of Supply, NC, and two English Springer Spaniels, Maggie and Katie whom she considered her grandchildren.
The family expresses its utmost appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at CMC Mercy for the care and attention that was given to Mrs. Holden during her illness. In addition, the family wishes to extend its appreciation to the residents of Westminster Towers for their dedication and friendships given to Esther during her residency.
