

Charlotte - Ethel Guerra Long, age 89, died peacefully on December 8, 2015 at The Pavilion Health Center - Ballantyne, following a long battle with cancer. Ethel was born in Buffalo, NY on February 23, 1926 and was raised in Monfredonia, Foggia, Italy.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Richard Hanson in the Chapel at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with inurnment to follow.
She is survived by her younger brothers, Joseph (wife Franca) and Michael, and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Mattero Guerra, and mother, Ethel Nagy Guerra, and her older brother, Mattero Guerra.
Following WWII, she was able to return to Buffalo in 1949. She married and settled in southern California, where she was a homemaker and foster mother to several children over the years. After surviving ovarian cancer in 1970, she relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1971. Ethel was a devoted Catholic and served as a housekeeper and cook for the priests of St. Vincent de Paul Parish rectory for many years. Several members of St. Vincent and St. Matthew parishes became her church family and provided assistance for many years. She is greatly loved and will be missed by each of them.
