Eugene N. “Bucky” Buchanan passed away on Saturday, November 27th, 2021. Born November 5, 1938 in Charlotte to the late Alfred M. and Ruby Nellie Buchanan, he was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and served in the US Army Reserves. He was a mechanic for over 50 years and obtained his master mechanic certificate.
Bucky was one of the hardest working people you’ll find, a friend to everyone, and a father figure to many. He was loving, generous, kind and lived his faith wholeheartedly never shying away from sharing his love for Christ.
Bucky was very active in church and sports activities. He was a faithful current member of the McLean Road Baptist Church and previous member at Grace Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, church visitor, choir member and singer. He could also be found around a baseball field as a coach and player. He enjoyed playing both church league and city recreation league softball with his sons and their friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred M. and Ruby Nellie Buchanan, his brothers, Bobby Buchanan and Louis M Buchanan, his mother and father-in-law, William and Elizabeth Almon.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Ann Almon Buchanan, his sons and grandchildren David Buchanan (Erin) of Yucaipa, CA and their children Emily, Rebekah and Abigail; Brian Buchanan (Gina) of Fort Mill, SC and their children Ashlyn, Ian, and Blakeney; his sister, Anita B. Helms of Mt Pleasant, NC; as well as very dear loved ones Jarrod and Kim Turner; their children Janna and Jack; and many others who saw him as a father figure.
