Evelyn was born on September 3, 1926 in Charlotte, NC to the late Bascom Cornelius Thrasher and Louella Bell. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Willard Ayers in 2009 and her sister, Frances T. Grooms. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Charlotte and worked at Universal Film Exchange and United Artists for many years.
For over forty years Evelyn enjoyed spending time at “the river” with her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins; every Sunday after church was a family reunion. She loved sports especially her Tar Heels and Panthers (especially when they were winning!)
Mama was known for her sweet spirit and humor. We can never recall hearing her say anything negative about anyone. Oh, that we could all say that!
A very special Thank You goes to Jamie Gardner and Libby Alexander who were Mama’s caregivers. We could have never gotten by without their dedication and devotion to Mama and her needs.
She is survived by her children, Alton G. Robinson, Jr. (Gracie) of Hillsville, Va., Risa R. DeShields (Doug) of Charlotte, Jeannine R. Williams (Steve) of Charlotte, and Brian K. Ayers (Jane) of North Augusta, SC.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christine R. McConnell (Ross), Matthew Williams (Autumn), Jeremy Williams (Amy), Rachel and Madison Ayers and Tanya D. Beauvais (Alan) as well as her great grandchildren, Logan McConnell, Lilly, Ruby Grace, Freeman, Jack, Henry Williams and Josh and Gabe Bouza. Also surviving Evelyn are her three nephews, Joe, Mike and Tim Grooms.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15 at 11:00am with visitation at 10:15am in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home.
Arrangements under the direction of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, Charlotte, NC.
