Evelyn Carol Henley

She was born on the 29th of October, 1947 in Salisbury, North Carolina to the late Ruth W. Brooks and Robert Brooks.

Carol and her late husband, John B. Henley, were married sixty years. The two of them traveled the world together due to John being in the military. They were inseparable and she was called, "My Carol" by him. She loved John with all her heart and we always use to say Mom and Dad spoke their own language. After John retired from the military, Carol worked in banking.

Mom was timeless, beautiful, loving, she never met a stranger, she loved meeting new people and could talk for hours. She loved the beach, the mountains and her dog, Bailey.

She is survived by her two daughters: Pam Gavurnik and husband, Randy and Kelly Griffin and her husband, Jason; three grandchildren: Danielle Mahoney and her husband, Matthew; Chase Griffin and his wife, Caelin and Brandon McAlpine and his wife, Brianna; one great grandchild, Brantley McAlpine; son-in-law, David McAlpine; one brother and two sisters: David Grubb and his wife, Debbie, Ronda Cleapor and her husband, John and Marilyn Tanner and her husband, Wayne. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John B. Henley; her daughter, Johnnie Diane McAlpine and two brothers and one sister: John Tanner, Timothy Tanner and Cindy Wingate.

Danielle was the first grandchild and reaped the benefits of being the first grandchild. Chase, from the time he was 5 years old he spent every weekend and summers with his grandparents. He was truly blessed with their relationship. He loved them beyond measure.

The Henley family would like to thank Peak Resources of Gastonia, especially, Jackie as well as Angie and Marilyn with VIA Hospice.

The family will greet family and friends on Tuesday, the 24th of February, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the Chapel of McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West. A service to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery where she will be laid to rest by her beloved John.
