

Evelyn Louise Hollars, 91, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021. Born in Charlotte, she was the devoted daughter of Henry Sandifer Hollars and Alma McGinn Hollars. She was the granddaughter of Emma and Edward Reese McGinn and Minnie and John Henry Hollars. Born and raised in the Plaza-Midwood section of Charlotte, her grandparents, aunts and uncles all lived and worked nearby creating a strong family community.
Ms. Hollars graduated from Charlotte Technical High School in 1947 as class valedictorian and President of the Honor Society. She also served as class poet, historian, and feature editor of the school newspaper, Howler. Voted as "Best All Around" and "Most Studious", Evelyn was affectionately described as a "Woman of few words, but many thoughts". Quiet, but outgoing, Evelyn loved to go dancing or spend vacations at the beach.
Following high school, she became an administrative assistant for Wachovia Bank where she rose through the ranks to serve as the assistant to the Regional Vice President of the Southern Region. Exemplary at handling business and communications, she remained with Wachovia throughout her career of fifty-two years.
Ms. Hollars was a lifelong member of Plaza Presbyterian Church, which she attended faithfully. She believed deeply in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Evelyn is survived by her many cousins and their families who have treasured her always. Janis and Ken Arrowood, Lloyd and Linda McGinn, Barbara Lawrence, Neal and Dana McGinn, June and Rick French, Marshall McGinn, Leon Drye, and Susan Cunningham. She was also godmother to Charles Cunningham and Casey Cunningham.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Matthews Glen (formerly Plantation Estates) for their kind and skillful care, in particular Derwin, Erin, Pam, Schuyler, Katrina, Gillian, Nicola, and many others.
The family also wishes to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte for their compassionate care and love, in particular Melanie, Chris, and Bob.
Out of concern for Covid safety, a graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 10th, at 10am at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd. Charlotte. Visitation will be from 9 until 9:45 am at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park.
