

Frances Virginia Black passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 21, 2014 in Charlotte, NC. She was born on August 27, 1918, the daughter of Virginia and Ulysses Willyard. In addition to her parents, her husband, Harry K. Black; her brothers, Dewey, Harvey and Paul Willyard; and sister, Betty Edwards, preceded her in death.
Frances graduated from Tech High School in Charlotte. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Her one passion in life was caring for her family, who adored her in return. She was a member of Calvary Church, where she was active for many years and also a member of the Charity League of Charlotte. She was best known for her cute sense of humor, sweet and gentle spirit and a gift of making everyone feel included and special. She looked forward to spending time at the beach with her children and grandchildren, where many wonderful memories where made.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Houser Barnhardt and husband Tom and son, Jerry Black and wife Doris; six grandchildren, Trey Houser (Helen), Ginger Houser Reid (Jamie), Beth Black, Jeremy Black (Carrie), Jeffry Black, Darla Black; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah and Abby Houser, Frances Reid, Alex Bouchard, Hudson Black, Ashlin Webster, and Lily Sewell; sister-in-law, Mabel Jamison. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Peggy Lindsay, Yza Lustre, Judy Starnes, and the staff at Merrywood for their love and dedication.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Calvary Church Chapel in Charlotte, and the family will visit with friends following the service.
