She was born June 26, 1922 in Union County, the daughter of Allen Carl Baucom and Bessie Simpson Baucom. Peg attended Oakhurst School and graduated from Central High School and Carolina Business School (now Kings).
While working at the U.S. Rubber Company "Shell Plant" in Charlotte, Peg met Raymond Otho Linker and they were married in 1943. After Otho’s discharge from the Navy in World War II, they settled in Charlotte and raised a family of two sons and a daughter. Following Otho’s death in 1970, Peg married Jack Louis Hardy in 1975, and they enjoyed seventeen years together in their home on the 10th fairway of the Carmel Country Club golf course until his death in 1992.
Peg’s family was the center of her universe. With her family and close friends, she shared many years of memorable outings to Holden Beach, the mountains, and to their cabin on Lake Wylie. During her child rearing years and afterwards, Peg was an active volunteer, serving as den mother, Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, senior high advisor, guardian ad litem, and Friendship Tray volunteer. Peg was an avid golfer at Carmel Country Club, serving as chair of the 18 hole women’s group, and also had the thrill of making a hole in one. She was also an accomplished bridge player, having achieved the ACBL Life Master rank.
Peg is survived by sons, Raymond Otho Linker, Jr. (“Ron”) and his wife Nola and Jeffrey Reid Linker and his wife Patsy; daughter, Lindsey Jane Linker and her partner Vicki Wentz; three grandchildren, John Raymond Linker and his wife Jamie, Jeffrey Reid Linker Jr. and his wife Katharine, and Stephen Raymond Linker; and three great-granddaughters, Campbell Linker, Evy Linker and Lily Linker.
