Frances Mazalee Vaughn

Frances Mazalee (Mazie) Hall Vaughn, 83 of Charlotte passed away July 21, 2013 at her residence. A service to celebrate her life will be at 12:30 PM Wednesday, July24th at Assurance UMC West Campus, Old Mt. Holly Road, (formerly Homestead UMC) with Reverends Daniel Corpening and Alexis Coleman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will be in the Forest Lawn West Garden Mausoleum. Mrs. Vaughn was born in Hartsville, SC on May 25, 1930. She moved to Charlotte after her high school graduation and began work at the Charlotte News and Observer, where she met her husband , Wesley.

They were married and started their life together raising their four children until Wesley’s death in 1981. Mazie worked at Southern Bell for 20 years and retired to enjoy planting flowers, playing bridge with her friends and spending time with her family. She was a lifetime member of Homestead UMC and loved her neighbors and the community of Coulwood. She was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves and seldom missed a game. Jeopardy and “Spin the Wheel” were her other favorite past times along with feeding the birds. Her sweet smile and quick wit will be missed by her family and friends. Surviving are her children, Steve Vaughn of Charlotte, Gary Vaughn and wife, Judy of Ponte Vedra, Fl.., Gale Foust and husband, Dan of Surfside Beach, SC and Eric Vaughn and wife, Donna of Charlotte, siblings, Betty Jean Sarasin of Vancouver, Washington, Caroline Mollo and Pedro Hall of Hartsville, SC, grandchildren, Josh Vaughn, Jessica Vaughn, Ben Foust, Alli Foust, Wesley Vaughn and Colton Vaughn and one great grandchild, Garret Vaughn. Her pallbearers will be Josh Vaughn, Wesley Vaughn, Colton Vaughn, Raikes Bennett, Randy Sipe and Tyler Deese.
