

Francis Julius Bonk, born August 24, 1946, resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2015, at the age of 69. Frank was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Frank served in the United States Army, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, and was discharged with the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He earned his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Frank was one of four children born to the late Adam and Stephanie Bonk, and was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. Bonk (Latham). Frank will forever be remembered by his devoted sisters, Elaine (Bud) Schultz, and Diane (John) McCarthy, and his loving brother, David (Mickey) Bonk, and his beloved children, Debra L. (James) Galley, Kimberly M. Sadler, Barbara A. (Gary) Schwind, Christina K. (Michael) Muehlbauer, John- Adam (Melanie) Bonk and Noah (Lyndsay) Bonk, and treasured grandchildren Sarah, Benjamin and Jacob Galley, Olivia Sadler, Haley and Keely Schwind, Emerson, Finneus, Oliver, Ezra, and Lilly Bonk, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.
Frank was a life-long learner, and devoted his life to his family, spending quality time at the beach, laughing, kayaking, jet skiing and sky diving. Frank touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, loyalty, and dedication. He maintained his trademark dry sense of humor all the way to the end.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with a Visitation Reception at 4:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.
