Francis Mike H. Stelter Jr.

Charlotte - Mike, 84, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Carrington Place in Matthews, NC. He was in the company of his family and in the devoted care of the Carrington Staff.

Born October 15, 1929, he was the only child of Francis H. Stelter, Sr. and Margaret R. McLaughlin Stelter. Mike graduated High School in June 1947. He went on to finish his education at Northeastern University in Boston.

Mike was a devout Catholic, along with the love of his life, his bride Joanne. Together they served in many capacities in their church life. Mike and Joanne became members of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church when they moved to Charlotte in 1998.

Mike found great accomplishment and pride in his career. F.H. Stelter joined RCA in 1966. Previously, he was with the equipment division of the Raytheon Company, and before that, the Foxboro Company’s telemetry systems organization. In May 1987, Francis H. Stelter, Jr. was appointed staff vice-president of business and market development for RCA Aerospace and Defense; in addition, he directed the activities of RCA's price systems. Mike held this position until he retired.

He is survived by his son, John Stelter and wife Jenny, and four grandchildren of Kentucky; his daughter, Anne Stelter Stapleton, husband Tom and three grandchildren of Charlotte; granddaughter, Valerie Drake Hood (Jason) and two great-grandchildren of Florida; granddaughter, Michelle Drake of Texas; and four great-grandchildren and his grandson, Ryan Spotts of New Jersey.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis H. Stelter, Sr.; his wife, Joanne M. Stelter; son, Michael F. Stelter; daughters, Pamela J. Stelter Drake and Paula A. Stelter Greenwood; and two grandchildren, Cory Michael Stelter and Jacob Christian Stapleton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. The Memorial Mass will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the church chapel. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. There will be a reception following the services at the Stapleton home in Charlotte.
