Frank Allen

Born September 3, 1930, in Surry County, he was a son of John Augusta Allen and Carrie Elizabeth Dezarn Allen. Following graduation from Surry County High School, Frank furthered his education at Gardner-Webb University. He then joined the USAF and served abroad enjoying a tour in Landsberg, Germany where he worked as a military intelligence Staff Sergeant. After his tour of enlistment, he returned to pursue his studies at High Point University earning his degree. He went on to spend many years in the insurance industry, retiring from Commercial Union in Charlotte.

Frank married his love, Ella Mae Barnes Allen, December 20, 1957. Frank enjoyed reading, fishing, checkers, horseshoes, croquet, cards, crossword puzzles, scrabble, and Sudoku. He enjoyed his family often spending weekends boating in various lakes as well as the Carolina coast. In later years, he enjoyed teaching grandkids these same activities.

Frank is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ella Mae Allen; one daughter, Donna Lloyd (David) of Covington, Louisiana; and three beloved grandchildren, Tim and Brittany Lloyd of Hammond, Louisiana, Patrick Lloyd of Garden Grove, California, and Carrie Lloyd of Covington, Louisiana. Also surviving are three sisters, Blanche Falkenberry, of Winston-Salem, NC, Lucy Still of Winston-Salem, NC, and Nancy Hunt, of Shoals, NC; and a brother, Lonnie Allen, of Shoals, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maude Creed and Mae Croft; and seven brothers, James Allen, Paul Allen, Henry Allen, Clarence Allen, Luke Allen, Roy Allen, and Fred Allen.

A visitation to honor Frank’s life will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 12, 2021, in the McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Interment with military honors will be Saturday, November 13th at 2:00 pm at Sharon Memorial Park.
