A well-lived life—just too short. Frank Forbes, born in Honolulu on June 27, 1963, treasured time with friends and family, 7 years and 286 days of sobriety, and finding a great sporting event to watch on TV. We mourn his death on July 22, 2023.
The son of Frank and Sue Forbes, Frank spent most of his life in Omaha, Nebraska. From an awesome childhood on Sprague Street surrounded by his lifelong best friends to the past 8 years in the Outer Banks, where he found an amazing family of friends, Frank deeply loved the people in his life. He was especially proud of his sister, Anne Marie.
Like his dad, Frank was a huge sports fan. His love of sports started with playing HORSE in the backyard and baseball at the YMCA. He also played basketball, loved golfing and swimming, and even surfed! While at Creighton Prep, Frank found his real love, track and field which then continued at UNO. He was quite the triple and long jumper! As a fan, Frank was loyal to Cornhusker football, KC Chiefs, and Creighton basketball. And anyone who knows Frank knows of his affection for the speed, beauty and excitement of horse-racing.
When Frank was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2023, he was determined to make the most of his time left on Earth. He watched great movies with mom, spoiled Anne Marie’s two cats, visited his friends on the OBX and welcomed friends to Charlotte. The finale? His last trip to the casino in Cherokee on July 3-4 was with Anne Marie and two dear friends. What a trip!
The celebration of Frank’s life is Thursday, July 27, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Come at 12:00 p.m. to spend time with Frank’s family and friends, look at pictures and share stories. The musical prelude and eulogy will begin at 12:40 p.m. followed by the funeral mass.
Frank wouldn’t want you to spend money on flowers…he would prefer you do an act of kindness or make a donation in his honor to Creighton Prep High School, 7400 Western Avenue, Omaha, NE 68114.
May we all be a little more like Frank— put friends and family first, root for the underdog, be kind to animals and always, always, always tell the people in your life that you love them. We love YOU, Frank and we will miss you.
