

Fred Arnold McNeer, Jr., of Charlotte, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital. Fred was born July 27, 1927 to Fred Arnold McNeer of West Virginia and Mary Ellen Millikin McNeer of Enfield, NC.
He graduated from Durham High School, Class of 1945, and Duke University, Class of 1950. At Duke, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity and was a yearbook photographer.
Fred served in the U.S. Navy following high school at the end of World War II, for a little over a year. He was called back to active duty in August 1950 until April 1952 during the Korean War.
Upon discharge, he went to work for Equitable Life Assurance Society of the U.S. in Indianapolis, IN. He was transferred to New York City from 1952 to 1957, then transferred to Atlanta, GA, and then to Charlotte, NC in 1959. He worked as a real estate appraiser and commercial real estate loan solicitor with The Equitable until the end of 1965. Mr. McNeer then went to work with North Carolina National Bank (now Bank of America) for 25 years in the commercial real estate lending area. He retired at the end of 1990.
He is survived by numerous cousins scattered over the United States.
A lifelong Episcopalian, he was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm. Monday, January 30, 2012. A private interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield, NC.
