Mr. Gary Wayne Freeman, Sr.

Mr. Freeman, age 65, of Charlotte passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital Main. He was born November 21, 1945 in Charlotte, North Carolina the son of the late George Wilkes and Daisy Freeman Wilkes. Gary was a devoted and loving husband, father, buddy, brother and friend. He was the rock in his family and was always willing to give a hand to anyone in need. His generous spirit and big heart will be remembered by many and missed by all who knew him. He owned and operated Freeman Refrigeration in Charlotte for 19 years and began a career in heating and air in the mid nineteen seventies. Surviving are his loving wife of 18 years, Kim Freeman; daughters, Angela Freeman and Tiffany Freeman both of Charlotte, NC, and Linda Blackmon and husband Billy of Hartsville, SC; sons, Keith Freeman of Charlotte, Wayne Freeman Jr. of Stanley, NC, Greg Freeman and wife Christina of Charlotte, Scott Freeman of Stanley, NC, and Kenny Freeman and wife Tammy of Hartsville, SC; brothers, GW Wilkes, Jr. and wife Lynette of Raleigh, NC, David Wilkes of Clayton, NC, James Wilkes of Greensboro, NC, Harold Wilkes of Greensboro, NC, and James Lowery and wife Phyllis of Rockingham, NC; sisters, Barbara Beach and husband Henry of Columbia, SC, Diane Carpenter of Greensboro, NC, and Debra Wilson and husband David of Columbia, SC; 23 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and an abundance of friends.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 23, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences at www.MeM.com.
