Gary Howman, 81, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, October 2nd with his family by his side. Born in Marion, OH, Gary relocated to Charlotte in 1978 where he worked for 40 years as a highly respected manufactures representative in the decorative plumbing and hardware industry.
Gary was a generous and kind soul who loved the Lord, adored his family and truly believed that every person he worked with was a friend. He touched the lives of everyone he knew and walked through life with a positivity that very few possess. He was the quintessential gentleman and never knew a stranger. Even at 81 his social calendar made most of us look lazy. From the Friday Night Special dinner group to Panthers games at the Rusty Onion, everyone loved spending time with Gary. He made you feel like a better person just by being with him.
Gary’s daughter, Becky and his granddaughters, Savannah, Saylor and Scottlyn were his absolute pride and joy. If he wasn’t showing you their latest photos, he was sharing stories of their academic achievements, cheerleading competitions and college adventures. To say he was a proud papa would be an understatement. For the past 6 years Gary has enjoyed life with his partner, Barbara Pinotti. They embraced everyday with the energy of 20-year-olds, and no matter where they went, they always left with new friends. Together they attended the Church at Charlotte, where they were active members and served in multiple ministries. Their faith in God and love of service was a gift to everyone they knew.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents: Karl and Loretta (Norris) Howman; his son: LCPL Gregory Howman (KIA 2004); his brothers: Theodore Howman and Keith Howman; and sisters: Brenda Zacharias-Barrier and Jackie Williams. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca (Howman) Lehmann and Patrick Lehmann and granddaughters: Savannah, Saylor and Scottlyn Lehmann of Pleasant View, TN; a brother; Charles Howman of Houston, TX; and sisters: Beverly Crist of Marion, OH and Linda Hodgin of Ft. Myers, FL.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 1:00 PM at Church at Charlotte - 2500 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the
