July 15, 1949 – April 25, 2024
With heavy hearts and fond memories, we bid farewell to a true Southern gentleman, George LaFayette Garrison, who passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2024, leaving a legacy of love and laughter that will forever warm our hearts.
George is survived by his wife and soulmate, Donna, whom he adored and protected until his final days. When they married in 2009, George’s children, Miles (Haley) and Brooke (Taylor), and Donna’s children, Ashley (Philly), Austin, and Walker (Olivia), formed the perfect blended family. George and Donna found the greatest joy in the simple moments spent with their children and grandchildren, cherishing every laugh, hug, and story shared with the younger generation.
George, affectionately known as Daddy G, was also cherished by his six grandchildren, his brother, Bob (Lu), his brother- and sister-in-law, Bill and Dede, and many admiring nieces and nephews.
Born on July 15, 1949, in Rome, Georgia, to Earl and Mildred Garrison, George was the definition of a loving and devoted Christian, profoundly impacting the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
From his days at Cartersville High School, where he earned the titles of Mr. Cartersville High School and Civic Youth Day Mayor, to his time at the University of Georgia as a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, George's charm and generosity endeared him to many. When he wasn’t in Park Hall studying, you could usually find him selling gentlemen’s clothing at Gunn’s or driving the Milledge Avenue bus.
In service to his country, George served as a Captain in the US Army, holding numerous leadership positions within the Medical Corps, most recently at Fort Benning. He embodied honor and duty with every step, and he proudly flew an American flag over his home every day since. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished 48-year career in the flooring industry. He left an enduring legacy, not just through his own accomplishments, but more importantly, on the development and mentorship of others throughout the southeast.
George enjoyed riding horses, bass fishing, barefoot waterskiing, and traveling to the Bahamas. He especially loved tailgating in Athens, where he was always the best dressed.
A prankster at heart, George had a knack for keeping everyone on their toes with his practical jokes. Yet, amidst the laughter, he always emphasized that class and kindness should never be compromised, “there is a time and place for everything.”
Despite his illness, George remained grateful for the blessings and opportunities life continued to bestow upon him. Though George may have bid us farewell, his spirit will live on in the memories and the lives he touched along the way.
A celebration of George's life will take place on May 4th, 2024, at Hope Community Church, 4418 Rea Road in Charlotte, NC 28226 (visitation at 5:00 and service at 6:00), followed by storytelling, laughter, and celebration at the Hyatt Centric South Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or your local blood bank in honor of George's legacy of having donated over 14 gallons of blood in his lifetime.
