George Vernon McGimsey, Jr.

Vernon graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart Barbara Moore. He spent part of his career working as Regional Vice President of Lowes, Inc. Upon retirement at age 50 he started two businesses with his three sons. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing golf. He also loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara Moore McGimsey, three sons, George V. McGimsey, III (Linda), Philip E. McGimsey, Sr. (Misty), Joseph M. McGimsey. five grandchildren, Sarah Turnbull (Kevin), Matthew McGimsey (Sarah), Laura McGimsey, Daniel McGimsey (Sarah), Phil McGimsey, Jr. (Victoria, eleven great-grandchildren and brother Arthur Ray McGimsey (Linda) of Houston.

The family wishes to thank Via Health and Hospice for their support and loving care.

A visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service- Pineville Chapel, June 24th 2025 at 10am with a service to celebrate Vernon’s life at 11am. Graveside service immediately following at Forest Lawn East in Matthews.
