

George T. Perry, 88, of Charlotte, died Thursday, February 16, 2012, at his home after a long battle with emphysema. He was born November 13, 1923, in Marion, SC, the son of Lucius and Leona (Davis) Perry. He attended school at Clemson before serving his country in the Navy during WWII, where he served on the submarine U.S.S. Peto in the Pacific. George would later earn an engineering degree from the University of South Carolina. He was united in marriage to Myrtice Ambrose on April 11, 1951. His travels as Project Engineer with International Paper Company allowed him and his family the opportunity to live many places around the country and Canada. He later took a position as Consultant Engineer with Charles T. Main in Charlotte, where he worked until retirement. George loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and cooking. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister, Phila; two brothers, Howard and Alvin Perry. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myrtice Perry of Charlotte; three children, Thomas Perry, Richard Perry, both of Charlotte, and Carol Perry of Knoxville, TN; one brother, Richard Perry of Atlanta; several nieces.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012, at McEwen Funeral Service – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, 28210, with visitation being held one hour prior to the service.
