He was born on March 8, 1926 in Burlington, North Carolina, one of three children to the late George Preston Satterfield and Annie Wellons Satterfield. George attended Elon College, then transferred and graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He had a long career as an Executive in Sales and Marketing with IBM until he retired after 37 years. He was a long-time member of Carmel Baptist Church and a member of the Trammel Discipleship Community. George loved watching UNC-Chapel Hill basketball, working on anything mechanical and playing golf with his IBM associates, Carmel Church friends and his sons and grandchildren. He loved being involved in any of the many activities that his grandchildren were part of and would attend events when he could. Words to sum up his life would be faith, family, love, kindness and encouragement.
Mr. Satterfield was a World War II veteran serving 2 years as a Corporal in the 2132nd United States Army Airforce as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic at Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Alabama. He was discharged on November 9, 1945. Some of his declarations included the American Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
The Satterfield family will greet friends 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Carmel Baptist Church on Pineville-Matthews Road. A service to celebrate his life will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Dr. Don Bouldin and Reverend Dr. Clay Barnes officiating. Private entombment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Satterfield is preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Frances Wagoner Satterfield, survived by his three children George Satterfield, Jr. and his wife, Debbie; Dr. Michael Steven Satterfield and his wife, Susan and Trish Satterfield Zoldowski and her husband, Mark; four grandchildren : Alex Satterfield and his wife Maria P. Satterfield, Emily Satterfield Sabolcik and her husband Chris Sabolcik, Ryan and Evan Zoldowski and one great-granddaughter Genevieve Satterfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, sister Norma S. Pickard and brother Dick G. Satterfield.
