Geraldine T. Allen

Born on December 12, 1926, Geraldine was a native of Ila, Georgia, where she graduated from Ila High School. She later continued her education at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Geraldine was a woman whose life reflected love, faith, and compassion. She will be remembered as a loving, nurturing, and energetic woman who devoted herself to her family, friends, and church. Her warm spirit and generous heart touched everyone she met.

A faithful member of Sunset Road Baptist Church, Geraldine was actively involved in the WMU ( Women's Missionary Union), B.H.Hovis Sunday School Class and the Sunlighters Senior Adult Ministry. Her unwavering faith and commitment to serving the Lord were evident throughout her life.

She found great joy in gardening, working in her yard, and spending precious time visiting with family and friends. Geraldine also had a special gift for cooking, and her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of home cooked meals prepared with love. She delighted in feeding others and making everyone who entered her home feel welcomed and cared for.

On December 19, 1945, Geraldine married the love of her life, William J. (Jewel/Bill) Allen. Together they shared 74 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, love, and family until his passing.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. Allen; her daughter, Connie A. McCoy; her parents, Joseph and Laura Thomason; her brothers, Winfred Thomason, Caiphus Thomason, Jack Thomason , W.D. Thomason, Walter Thomason; and her sisters, Laura Berryman, and Ellen Thomason.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Cheryl Hassell (Sid) and Sandra Cathey (Jim). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Josh Hassell( Jennifer), Ed Hassell ( Hannah), Jess Cathey (Amy) , Laura Watts ( Chris), Chris McCoy ( Holly), and Thomas McCoy ( Wendy); 12 great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Sunset Road Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208, US, on July 30, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Graveside Service will take place at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208, US, on July 30, 2026, at 12:15 pm.
