Geraldine Rodgers Dilling

Geraldine Rodgers Dilling went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2019.

Born on March 20, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Lester Banks Rodgers and Bessie Sehorn Russell Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Franklin E. (Bill) Dilling, Sr., two brothers, Reuben Russell and Lester Carl Rodgers and one sister, Catherine Rodgers Greene.

Gerry, lovingly called “Maw”, was a lifetime resident of the Matthews/ Charlotte area. She worked for BellSouth for 34 years. At her retirement in 1982, she was supervisor of the Personnel Department.

Gerry’s special gift was caring for family members in need. Among these who benefitted from her special touch were her aunt, her two brothers and her husband until his death ten years ago. She was a member of Sunday School at First Baptist Church Matthews.

Gerry is survived by her son, Franklin E. (Butch) Dilling, Jr. (Rita) of Ridgeway, S. C., grandson Jason E. Dilling (Natalie) of Monroe, N.C., three great grandsons, Addison E. Dilling, Aubrey E. Dilling, Anderson E. Dilling and great granddaughter Ashton Williams and Patricia Grant Dilling.

Gerry’s delight was in her grandson and great grandchildren, always involved closely in their lives.

The service honoring her life will be Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte, N. C.

Burial will follow the service in Sharon Memorial Park adjacent to the funeral home. The family will arrive at the Chapel at 2:00 PM.

Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at First Baptist Church Matthews.

Sorry to learn of Gerry's passing. We worked together for many years and were friends. We also were fellow Sunday School Class members. My heart goes out to her family who will be in my prayers during the dark days ahead as you grieve the loss of your Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grand Mother.
