

Born February 20, 1925 in Martinsville, VA to Gerard and Rachel Garrett King, he grew up in Charlotte and was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Following high school he attended NC State University, as well as the University of Arkansas and received a degree in chemistry. Mr. King then spent his career as a chemist with Celanese Corporation.
Among many fond memories, he is remembered for the huge garden he grew in his younger years and for his love of animals.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Overton King, and is survived by nieces and nephews, John Brooks Keith and Ann Garrett King and Hill Overton and wife, Phyllis; as well as many great nieces and great nephews.
Mr. King’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17 from the graveside at Sharon Memorial Park.
